sing from the heart

Welcome to the sing from the heart site, featuring some singing opportunities in Somerset. Be uplifted in song – sing with us! We sing songs from all around the World in glorious harmony – gospel, folk, pop, African, Eastern European. We’re unaccompanied and there are no auditions, anyone can join us. By selecting the various tabs on the black bar above you can find out more about 3 choirs in Somerset and about Catherine, the choirs’ director. Singing is fun, and it’s a great way for people to come together.

Singing releases tensions, feeds the soul and opens the heart – everyone should sing! Learning and remembering the songs is also good for the brain. Singing with others gives us an opportunity to free our voice – we all have a voice, whatever we may have been told, and the choirs provide a supportive, friendly atmosphere, where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

The Benefits of singing to health are well known – listen to the following programme with Dr Mark Porter (the piece about singing starts at 6mins 48 secs into the programme, until 12mins 53 secs): Inside Health 24 April 2012 on Radio 4 .

If you can’t commit to a weekly choir, contact Catherine about monthly events in Somerset. She also periodically sends out emails of singing workshops, singing holidays and other singing-related events that she and other people arrange.

Here is what people who sing with Catherine say:

“I went along to my first evening with the choir on my own and arrived
somewhat nervously, but straight away was made to feel welcome as everyone was so friendly. I haven’t missed a session since; it is both relaxing and invigorating at the same time – and great fun!”  Sarah J (Wood Street Choir)

“Catherine is a great communicator and makes us feel at ease”.  Carol (Wood Street Choir)

“I have really enjoyed turning up each week with no paper or props – just ourselves – and then we sing.  It’s very therapeutic and especially when you go to the pub afterwards for a pint!”    Sarah U (Burrowbridge Choir)

“I find the Wood Street choir very relaxing and de-stressing after a long day at work. It is also really satisfying when we all sing together and make a lovely sound, it gives you get a real sense of achievement.  The way we learn songs suits me as we just follow Catherine’s example, which means that you really concentrate on listening to the notes and the rhythm, and don’t need to read music”.    Kate

“Joining the Burrowbridge choir has really a new exciting experience for me, it is a very different way of singing and it can be challenging.   I’ve always enjoyed singing but never made the school choir – now I’m learning new techniques all the time”.  JJ

What can I say about singing with Catherine? Simply, if you want a pure spine tingling experience, sing with Catherine, and that is exactly what you will get.

We start with the bare bones of songs from all around the world, and Catherine guides and teaches us to build layer upon layer until, whatever your singing ability, you are singing with all your heart. I leave singing with Catherine feeling pure joy and exhilaration.
